In a London tavern in 1705, Captain Gabriel Wallace and Lieutenant Miles Jacobs intervene when an admiral attempts to kill his wife’s paramour. Gabriel prevents this, but someone stabs the admiral and Gabriel must face an Admiralty court of inquiry. The verdict, while acknowledging both his good intentions and his loyal service to the Crown, cashiers him from the Royal Navy. But the admiral’s friends aren’t satisfied and hatch a plot to destroy Gabriel. Not only do they connive to bring about his eventual execution, but they also kidnap his younger brother and set his house aflame with him in it.

Miles and another lieutenant rescue Gabriel and his brother and, having nowhere else to turn, they head for the Majesty’s Venture, Gabriel’s former vessel. While others see the crew as hard-headed and undisciplined, Gabriel realizes just how loyal his men are when they decide to “retire” from the navy and abscond with their ship. First, though, they have to escape the harbor and the naval vessel pursuing them.

Never one for idleness, Gabriel didn’t waste his time after being relieved of his command and waiting for his trial. He uncovered interesting details about the admiral and his friends, hypocritical men who claimed allegiance to the Crown but stole from it to line their own purses. He and his crew become pirates with a purpose – to bring about the downfall of his enemies and reveal their secrets. His insistence on keeping his plans to himself, rather than sharing them with Miles, puts a strain on their friendship. Sooner or later, Miles must decide whether to stand with Gabriel or not, and Gabriel is uncertain which way Miles will go.

Like undulating waves, Amber’s Wake is a tale of non-stop action and heart-thudding thrills: storms at sea, pirates, and narrow escapes from their hunters (former friends and colleagues). The characters are well-drawn and, although the reasons behind Miles’s hesitancy and Gabriel’s reluctance to share could be stronger, they quickly snare readers into caring about what happens to them. Readers familiar with the other books in the Razor’s Adventures Pirate Tales series will enjoy this one, which explores Rasmus Bergman’s past, and look forward to future exploits with Gabriel and his men.

#Fabulous Five Star Review for JADED TIDES! Come on! Climb #Aboard!

Five Stars Girl

I LOVE this review!

“Ready for another high adventure on the open seas where vast ships sail the waters filled with cargo, treasure and contraband? Welcome aboard as we set sail once again with the firebrand, Ivory, still in her disguise as Ivan. To her shock and awe, she finds love in the arms of the Jade’s captain. Rasmus knows what he is getting into with the fiery Ivory and he has vowed to fight by her side as she prepares to seek and destroy every slave ship she finds. Young females are being taken from their homes and sent across the waters in a lucrative pirate sex trade business fouling the waters of the Caribbean and Ivory is determined to stop it at any cost. But is she willing to risk Rasmus? Her identity? Her life?

P.S. Bartlett is back and she has another adventure-filled voyage to take us on. Jaded Tides is adventure, romance and history in the making as Ivory will stop at nothing to stop evil at its worst. With her own history to spur her on, sometimes Ivory acts before she thinks, but it’s her passion that brings this tale to life. She is a heroine to be reckoned with. And Rasmus? The man is a saint, honorable, brave and, let’s be honest; he loves the fire in Ivory’s heart, even when it could be at his expense.

With a rapid pace, entanglements all around and a crew that has salt in their veins and loyalty in their hearts, the humorous scenes just add to the joy of Ivory’s adventures. More fun than the Loveboat, more romantic than a seaside picnic, even the smells of the crew, the water and the bowels of a ship wouldn’t make me miss taking this voyage! So hoist the sails, get your sea legs ready, we’re off on another adventure with P.S. Bartlett at the helm.”

Book Review – Queen of my Nightmare (Uncharted Secrets, Book 2)

Last week, I posted my review of the first book in this series, Uncharted Secrets.

Uncharted Secrets

Queen of my Nightmare

I also interviewed the author, Cristi Taijeron and one of her main characters, the hunky and scrumptious, Mason Bentley. I read this book last weekend when I had some down time after Christmas (my gift to myself) and I started the third book in the series last night; Every Time it Rains.

I am so hooked!

My Review:

Again, a fabulous story told in such a way that you feel as if you are standing there beside the characters, watching it unfold.

A tumultuous love story set against a backdrop of violence and buccaneer life. This is the second book in the tale of Mason Bentley and Hannah; a passionate, brave and dare I say hot and sexy sea captain and his Queen. This book has the perfect mix of romance and action. Cristi is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors of this genre. Her dedication to historical accuracy and terminology speaks to what I can only imagine is countless hours of research. However, that’s what great authors of historical fiction do and she has definitely taken the time and care required to write pirate and buccaneer history perfectly.

The characters are genuine, the story line is engaging and the emotional connection sits you in the front car of a roller coaster but you don’t want to exit the ride.

Again, the writing is truly superb. From glorious descriptions of emotions and landscapes to the heart wrenching agony of the fear and death of battle, Cristi always finds the right words in the right order and colors them in such a poetic and beautiful way that is all her own.

I’m about to begin book three in the series and I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Every Time it Rains

Uncharted Secrets – My Chat With Mason Bentley and My Review

Endless Horizons

Mason Bentley as Hannah describes him: His stunning green eyes, which stood out like emeralds in the sand against his golden skin.

Mason in his own words:

1. What is your name?

The Name’s Mason Bentley.

2. What is your hair color and style, eye color, and skin tone?

My long hair is a light brown color, my skins golden tan, but I got these green eyes that make the wenches fall faint beneath my gaze.

3. What is your current job title / social station / rank?

I’m a buccaneer captain. Not a pirate. Not a privateer. A buccaneer. The war we wage is strictly against the Spanish, but I bow to no king and any man from any race who tries to take me freedom won’t be living to tell the tale.

4. How much pride do you take in your appearance?

Ah, I never had much while growin’ up, but me grandfather used to say, “If’n ye ‘ave but one schilling it ought to be shiny and if’n but one coat ye better keep it clean.” Now I’m rich as a damned king so I dress as well as one, but I’m better armed than a knight of the roundtable.

5. Who has been your greatest influence (parent, friend, idol)? Why?

My grandfather, Sterling Bentley. He taught me how to stand up for what’s right, to fight for what I believe in, and to protect those unable to protect themselves. I owe him for every bit of sense I carry around in this big ol’ head of mine, and I wouldn’t have fared so well in this wicked world after his passing had he not raised me to be the man I am.

6. Where did you grow up? How do you feel about it now?

I grew up on me grandfather’s farm in the English countryside. It was nice. Hell, I still think about the breeze blowing across those grassy fields when me mind needs a moments rest.

7. What is your worst habit / vice?

Women. I could lead me crew of bawdy buccaneers through the gates of Hell if’n I had to, but those pretty little female creatures tend to throw me good sense out of the porthole and hang me better judgment from the yards.

8. What is the driving force / motivation in your life?

First and foremost, it is freedom, which unfortunately seems an item that can be bought, and Spanish gold is my preferred method of currency to cover the cost.

9. What secret would you feel the most vulnerable sharing with anyone?

The reason I turned to the sea.

10. Does anyone know this secret?

If so, who? How do they feel about it? Only me and the Devil know that, and how he feels about it is of no concern of mine.

My Review of Uncharted Secrets:

FIVE STARS!

I’ve just finished reading this book. I started it last night but I was exhausted and fell asleep with it on my chest. That’s exactly where it belongs…close to my heart! I couldn’t wait to get back to it this evening and once I did, i knew I couldn’t stop until I was done!

Hannah was dealt a horrible hand. After finally escaping her miserable mother, a horrid night at sea threw her even deeper into a hellish nightmare that pushed her to the brink of death until she found herself in the midst of an even more uncertain future. Concerned only with survival and coping with more pain and loss than she could have dreamt in her worst nightmare, her instincts were to fight or flee.

Love wasn’t an option but in once again finding herself and making that discovery through what she believed the most unlikely source…one she wanted to dispise, a sea of change and a Sunrise of unlikely colors may just paint her future for her. When she learns to embrace her gifts, only then can she see past the horizon and stop denying her true nature and her true heart.

As an author myself, I appreciate and dare I say fall in love with stories that are not only well written but get into my head and my heart. This author and this story have captured me but I am a willing prisoner. I was lost in this story and the emotion, the scenery and the almost flesh and bone characters felt so real to me. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to find out what happens next!

Now…to make time for the next book…and believe me when I tell you I will make the time!!!

My Review – 5 STARS!
The Blue Diamond by P. S. Bartlett

Long before the days of required floatation devices and multi-million dollar pleasure yachts, only the bravest of the brave would venture the seas, brave the storms and dare to cross paths with legendary pirates. Of these pirates one stands out, more cunning, slippery as an eel and already the object of seafaring history? I dare say, if Moby Dick had come upon this captain, that tale would have had a far different ending.

Who is this brute of a pirate known as the Razor? Allow author P. S. Bartlett to introduce you to Miss Ivory Shepard, the oldest of four female cousins, each with their own special gift to bring to the table, and to the seas. Able to outwit, out manuever and overpower men twice her diminutive size, Ivory and her crew have become a force to be reckoned with, legends in a world that rarely gives way. Ivory has also become the object of a manhunt, with a bounty on her head for the theft of value diamonds and one man, a “gentleman” pirate known as Blacksnake is determined to win the prize. But was he prepared for the real Ivory?

The brilliant woman behind the pirate façade is damaged, and grasping at a way to survive without being under the thumb or whip of any man. She also is beautiful, feisty and deadly poison for Maddox’s heart. He may be holding her captive, but she has made him a prisoner of his heart and his lust and he doesn’t’ even realize it until she manages to escape and return to the sea. The chase is on, who will win? Will the loser walk the plank?

Love it, love it, love it!

The Blue Diamond by P. S. Bartlett, the flagship book in her new series, The Razor’s Edge is an historical romance lover’s dream! Ms. Bartlett has dared to create a tale of adventure and intrigue on the sea, shining the spotlight on a remarkable group of women that prove being a pirate isn’t a boy’s only club! Each character, no matter how brief their appearance is fully developed, uniquely displayed and often comically charming. No heaving bosoms here, unless it’s to trap a man! Fun, with some high action, history comes to life with a swashbuckling flare!

Here is the review from beach Bound Books:

My Review

The Blue Diamond The Razor’s Edge is a compelling story of love, loss and second chances. Ivory is a strong willed and determined pirate who will stop at nothing to protect the ones she loves, but when romance is thrown in the mix anything can happen.

Orphaned at a young age, Ivory is left with only her cousins and their will to survive. They settle into a life on a farm away from the evils of the time, but life has other plans which becomes evident the night pirates arrive.

Transformed into a ruthless pirate, Ivory sails the seas. Her life now filled with adventure and freedom, that is until her ship, The Blue Diamond is attacked. Narrowly escaping with her life, Ivory ends up adrift in the sea until someone plucks her from it. Eluding to a rescue, Captain Carbonale tries to convince Ivory his only desire is to see her survive. Buying none of the pleasantries Captain Carbonale is selling, Ivory demands to be freed. When Carbonale refuses, Ivory finally discovers there is a bounty on her head and Captain Carbonale plan to collect it. Can Ivory escape or will Captain Carbonale win this battle that doesn’t require a pirate ship?

I am a fan of historical fiction as well as of the author, P.S. Bartlett. The Blue Diamond is yet another success as she spins a thrilling tale of adventure and love. The characters and setting are developed in such a way that draws readers in and the quick pace and continual action left me with a need to read on. The Blue Diamond The Razor’s Edge is a well written satisfying read.

I recommend grabbing a copy. Available on Amazon.
