Dr. Owen Whelan and his wife Sarah have seven bright and expressive children. However, one of them is very unique; he’s been followed since birth by lost souls.

However peculiar Ennis Whelan has been for the first six years of his life, not until the day he found the bird did the degree of his strangeness become so tangible.

Ennis claimed it flew away.

His sister Teagan was about to bury it. Teagan becomes increasingly suspicious of his odd behavior, but their mother dismisses her claims; that is, until he starts healing people.

When he also reveals the gift of sight, he questions his father about visions of his past, including his father’s voyage to America in 1844. Owen prayed he’d never have to share those tragic memories, but he will when he realizes he has no choice. Ennis’ life depends on it.

Dragonbride (The Dragon Chronicles, Book #1)

Her aunts carefully prepared her for her obligations and her sacred duty. She will have to get married to the Holy Golden Dragon, the King of the Dragons, a huge Earth Dragon with magical talents. She cannot believe that she is the “Chosen One”, who has to protect the Dragon Species, all of Nature and finally the Earth. Teaser:

The mountains possessed a dark but seductive beauty, and they lay in wait for the ones who came through the Fire Hell. The powdered white peaks of the sparkling black mountain-world watched for them with longing.

The Diamond Mountains gave the illusion of being much closer than they really were, and many a pilgrim had been lured to his death by the promise of riches hidden on their slopes. These mountains were so named because of the rough gems strewn about the black volcanic soil. When the sun shone overhead the gems made the mountains sparkle and shimmer brightly, and at night they made the moonlit mountains glow with a soft silver light.

People, blinded by both their greed and the tantalizing glittering of the sunlit earth, imagined that there was immeasurable wealth lying there on the ground, just waiting to be picked. However, the mountains never betrayed the secrets they held. None who had ever walked those slopes could find the diamonds hidden within the black soil, for the mountains protected themselves.

Although healthy forest still grew in the foothills, the undergrowth became sparser just a few hundred feet up, and then the treeline ended. Where stunted trees would normally grow the forest just stopped, as if some unseen hand had cut it short. All that remained were dangerously sharp, dry rocks. Just below the snowline, the rocks disappeared, and the glittering black soil took their place.

Moreover, at the summit it seemed as if the Creator of All Things had dusted the peaks of the fissured mountain range with powdered sugar, for they were covered with a deceptively soft-looking, yet extremely sharp-edged eternal snow.

The mountains never betrayed their secrets…

And if a wanderer were to climb those peaks, going up to the Fire Hell and searching to quench his thirst at a splashing mountain spring, he would find no cool, refreshing water. Instead, these living mountains would seek to frighten him by shrouding the ground with a mysterious fog that made it impossible to see where he was putting his feet. Pilgrims sometimes drowned in the sulfurous pools of water hidden within the hellish rocks when the fog appeared, and if they left the main trails, they would know true fear, for they would be led down treacherous sidepaths that seemed to take them somewhere, yet actually led them nowhere but to their doom.

The mountains never betrayed their secrets…

Though many thought they would find the cool relief of the shadows by early evening, the ascent would continue for another three torturous days. During those three days, their throats would scream for water, and their eyes would tear up in the swirling sand. Blown up by the hot desert winds, the sand burned as it fell upon a traveler’s face and skin. Eventually their limbs would become heavy, and they would barely be able to move; thus, the wanderers would be forced to crawl on, farther and farther, until sheer luck eventually brought them to civilization… to people.

In a canyon between two hills below the mountain range there was a village. It had no official name, but the people living there called it Alpcateçu, which meant Oasis of the Mountains. Anyone who wanted to climb the mountains had to pass through the village. A few taverns and inns surrounded the village fountain, where a market was sometimes held.

Some houses and huts had been built in the wide hills and even at the edge of the forest… and in one such place, hidden within the woods, almost four hundred feet past the deepest thicket and connected to the village only by a sidepath lay the place in which I had been born.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My name is Brien O’Raighne and I hail from Houston, Texas. I love to write. It is a passion of mine. Some would say an obsession, but those don’t really support me when they call it an obsession.

My writing usually combines my influences of Epic Fantasy, Sci-Fi Sagas, Paranormal, Classic Horror monsters, Superheroes and more. With what I like movie wise it would be hard for most people to understand some of my major influences in writing.

My influences include: J.K. Rowling, E.B. White, Homer, William Shakespeare, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Chris Claremont, Lara Hama, Margaret Weis, Tracey Hickman, J Michael Strasczynski, Todd McFarlane, Scott Lobdell, Timothy Zahn, Roald Dahl, amongst others.

Please Welcome My Amazing Friend Reece Bridger to the Blog Today!

Reece is a fellow Ravenswood Publishing author. We’ve struck up a friendship over our mutual love of writing. Despite our age difference, we have wonderful chats about our passion, proving writing and the dedication to the craft has no bounds.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Reece Bridger – Author / Fantasist / Professional Dreamer / Voice Actor

Reece Bridger

I gave Reece four questions to answer:

What are you working on?

The story I’m working on right now is the Buan Trilogy, the first segment of a saga made up of fourteen books or more in total. The first of the trilogy, soon to be re-released with Ravenswood Publishing, is ‘The Perfect Mortals’. The story, which was originally self-published in early 2013, revolves around a family of four siblings living sequestered in the middle of a war-torn, monster-riddled continent. The bloody memories of their past haunt them in the present, and promises to form greater challenges for the future. But, their future takes a drastic turn when they are chosen without any foreseeable reason by their Goddess to be endowed with fantastic and powerful gifts to combat the return of an age-old enemy to the nation. The trilogy focuses on them as they fight against monsters, foreign enemies and their own shortcomings to reach the true cause of their suffering and defeat it once and for all.

How does your work differ from others of its genre?

I believe my first book differs from others of its genre because, despite being filled with arguable clichés and reused common ideas, the main characters have their personal issues to deal with associated with growing up and facing a harsh world that they aren’t prepared for. It explores the effects of unwanted power and responsibility, with no one around to help them. In some ways, it’s a coming-of-age story, but those elements are by no means the main focus; the story takes much more precedence than the characters’ adolescent struggles.

How does your writing process work?

My writing process is somewhat lax in comparison to more renowned and well-experienced authors. Being a full-time student has limited the time I can spare to write. But, that being said, I have managed to get at least 1,000 words in most days when I don’t have other things to worry about. During the summer holidays I always try to write 5,000 words on any day where I don’t have plans, whether those words are spent writing my next book, editing the current ones, or writing the script for my upcoming web series ‘Zoolaplex’. I try to progress by around 5,000 words total through at least one medium per day. As long as I have enough to drink, some good music in the background, and a clear plan of what I want to happen in my head, then it all just seems to write itself most of the time.

Why do you write what you do?

I suppose the reason I write what I write is because I love the story and I want to share it with the world. The story acts as a premise for the rest of the saga and, even with all the plot twists that I’m putting into Buan, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the rest takes it up a notch. Furthermore, I want to prove that my Aspergers doesn’t hold me back from achieving my dreams; I’ve been told too many times in the past that my condition will limit my opportunities and keep me from having the same standard of life as ‘normal’ people in the future. I want to prove to everyone who shares my condition or has a similar one that what those people say isn’t true. You can still achieve your dreams no matter what stands in your way.

Welcome Author Wilson Feliz and His Book “Forbidden Forest – The Dragon Holder

Why I Began to Write the “Forbidden Forest” Saga
When leaving for war, the feeling I remember most, before writing The Dragon Holder was the emotion of fear as I tried to think of what the next year of my life would be like. I was not sure if I would make it and I almost couldn’t imagine myself getting on a plane to return home from the desert.
The flight was long, longer then most, I would say at least 14 hours or so.
While on the flight I remember looking around and seeing all those others wearing the same uniform as I looking depressed, a dull expression on their faces showed nothing close to happiness and the same anxiety I was feeling.
Since I was younger I can remember always writing, telling myself stories that took me away from my current situations that I felt I had to escape.
I suddenly pulled out my phone and went into my memos, and there I began to write a story filled with family, loyalty and love, a story of fantasy and the wonder of life. This story helped me get through that year of being so far away in an unknown place.
I have always been fascinated with the Fantasy world, you could ask anyone and they would tell you that I would always say,
“Anything a human mind can imagine is real”.
I know one thing, The Dragon Holder took an entire year to finish, I remember returning on the plane and reading the last few paragraphs of the story, and how it took me away from my current
situation and the stress I felt, it brought me to a world where everything was alright again.
I hope my story does the same for you, please do not forget to pass the word around, that a soldier is on the path to becoming to a full-time author and thank you so much for taking the time to read my novel. The next path in the journey is just around the corner!

Wilson Feliz is a new Young Adult and Adult fictional writer based out of the United States. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Feliz
is currently serving his country as a member of the US Army.
While his day job keeps him grounded on whatever post he’s stationed at, Feliz’s work as an author allows him to whisk his readers away to different worlds at the turn of a page. According to Feliz, writing has always been an outlet. “Even when I was a kid, I’d write poems and short stories as a way to get out of my head and focus on something other than everyday life. My imagination was always a little strange and out there.”
It was his “out there” imagination that led Feliz to craft the world of Sindergan in his first full-length novel, The Forbidden Forest Series: Book One, The Dragon Holder.
“The Dragon Holder literally came out of nowhere,” Feliz stated. “I had read stories about dragons and fantasy worlds, but Liam’s story was something that came from my heart.”
It was Feliz’s strong family bonds and sense of loyalty that played heavily on the creation of his characters. “What you’ll see in all my books is that there is no bond like love…All of my characters have a
strong sense of loyalty and a deep need to protect their own. The Dragon Holder was my first attempt to express that part of myself. Yes, the book is a fantasy novel about a different land — full of magic and mystery — but at its heart, The Dragon Holder is about a young man stepping into his role as a protector, taking everything he learned as a boy and using it to take care of others.”
In his own life, Feliz takes his theme of family loyalty to heart. When he’s not writing, Feliz is a homebody who loves spending
time with his family.
Feliz is currently working on The Dragon Holder sequel, as well as a non-fantasy fictional novel, Mason Cartel.
