Is the Chateau LeMoyne in New Orleans Haunted ?

I’ll let you all be the judge. All I can say is I had no idea this hotel was listed as one of the most haunted in town. What I do know is that something or someone was in my bathroom early this morning doing what sounded like checking out the things on my sink vanity.

Then this happened.

  1. I’m glad I found this blog and video. I stayed in this hotel with my parents during our 2003 trip to the French Quarter. We stayed for three or four nights, and every single morning I woke up at 2am, feeling as though I was being watched. I turned on my lamp and didn’t go to sleep for a long time. I played on my new laptop or read. No sounds… just that feeling/energy that I wasn’t the only one awake. I’ve searched every now and then for other testimonials for Chataeu Lemoyne, and usually found nothing. Thank you for the video.

    1. Thank you for your post Alex. As I said, oddly enough, I didn’t feel frightened at all. I slept like a baby that week. I don’t know what woke me that morning except for the sound of someone picking things up and putting them down in the bathroom. Then I saw the shadow. Before I took this video, I even walked in and saw nothing. My mind was telling me it was my imagination and even said, maybe it’s some kind of critter lol However, the video doesn’t lie, although a few people have scoffed at it but of course, they can give me no other explanation as to what is blocking out the bathroom light. I say, it is what it is and until someone can prove otherwise, I know what I heard and saw. I did ask it to stop and it did.

  2. I am so glad I found this. About 2 years ago I stayed here with my parent’s we were on the top floor and we had the wired feeling someone was watching us the whole time pluse we kept walking in cold spots . Well that night around midnight my mom was awoken by this strange coldness and there were these to floating orbes above the bed she freaked out woke up my dad who couldn’t believe his eyes needless to say we left the next day. But I am so glad I found this and it validates our experience!

    1. Thank you Claire. I’m planning another trip to New Orleans next year and will definitely be staying at the Chateau Le Moyne. Like I said, I didn’t feel the least bit threatened by it and it did stop when I asked it to. People just will never believe these things happen unless they see it for themselves and even then, some will still not believe it. I can’t deny what I heard and saw. That’s why I taped it. I knew most people wouldn’t believe me. The orbs sound very cool though!

  3. Yea, it’s haunted alright. A few years back, a couple of years after Katrina, the hotel put my wife and I in a room on the second floor of the Creole Quarters. Around 3 am, my wife woke up suddenly to the feel of hands pressing down on her leg, then slowly moving up her leg. She was frozen with fear. She lightly moved her leg and it stopped. Then she said I kicked my leg under the covers (I’d sleep through an earthquake). The next morning we’re checking out and asked if anyone ever reports unusual things happening in that room. Without hesitation, “What happened to you?” My wife described the event, describing the whatever as “she”. “That isn’t a she, that’s a male. Those used to be slave quarters. He likes, shall we say, lighter skinned women”. The she told us of a Blackwater female security lady they put in that room one night after Katrina. She woke up to the feel of someone messaging her neck. Then the door flew open. She ran out, left the hotel, and wouldn’t come back. Then there’s the lady that walks through the walls on one of the floors where years ago there was a connecting hallway. She is evidently seen fairly frequently. I wish I could remember the floor, because we just checked in for the week and have a room on the fourth floor, at the end of the short hallway (Dauphine side). From the balcony, you can tell the fourth floor in the connecting building of the hotel is set just a little bit lower that our building. We’ll let you know if we have any unexpected guests this week.

BTW, we Love this hotel and almost always stay here when we come to The Quarter. Just not in the Creole Quarters…ever again.

    1. Hi Mike,
Thank you for your stories. Every time someone tells me of their experiences, I smile and miss the hotel that much more. I’m so jealous that you are there this week. I can’t wait until we can go back. I encourage everyone that stays there to keep their cell phones handy and just wait like I did. As I said, I wasn’t looking for anything. I just couldn’t sleep because of the clicking and tapping in the bathroom and decided to read on my Kindle on my phone and kept seeing the shadow in the bathroom out of the corner of my eye.
The ghosts of the Chateau are not the least bit shy.

      Enjoy your visit!

  4. My friend and I are staying at the Hotel LeMoyne for the next few nights. Were interested in seeing your video, but it’s no longer on your web site. Could you email it to us?

  5. I’d say it’s haunted . I was just watching ID channel and saw a story about a priest being murdered there . This happened back in 1998 on the 5 th floor I believe.

    1. Room 520..I didn’t know until I just STAYED in that room! A few odd things happened.. I felt my blanket being pulled out from under my knee, but the minute I jumped out of bed, it stopped. My friend and I both were startled awake on separate nights, like when you feel like you are falling- except neither of us were having a falling dream, nor was there any noise. I also went to look out the little window alcove, but the minute I stepped foot it in, I got a really bad feeling and backed off. But other than that, i felt relatively safe!

  6. O.K., we are staying at The Chateau LeyMone and at 2 a.m. this morning someone knocked on our door, I got up and looked through the peep hole, no one was there, so I went back to bed, 10 minutes or so later, another knock at the door, I got out of bed, looked out the peep hole, again, no one was there, this time, I stood looking through the peep hole for a good four minutes, nothing, so, I got back into bed, then again, another knock, again, no one was there. Tonight, I have verbally asked the ghost to not wake me up knocking on my door tonight.

  7. My Daughter just called me telling me her room is haunted. Room 213 I think. Lights turning off and then back on and knocking. I will give her this web site.

  8. We were upgraded to the Creole Quarters, when we stayed there a week in May 2016. Loved the hotel. Last 2 nights my BF kept telling me he felt like he was being watched. I felt nothing and slept like a log. Then I found this page when we got home. Nothing harmful at all. BF won’t stay here again, though. Hmmm. LOL

  9. I just got back from NOLA for a girls trip. We stayed here, in rooms 518 and 520 (adjoining rooms with the door open). The very first night, I felt someone sit down at the bottom of my bed. Everyone else was already in the bed, so it couldn’t have been anyone I was with. I also heard weird noises at night, but chalked that up to the ice machine that was right outside our door. I didn’t sleep well at all.

  10. I have stayed in this hotel on two different occasions for business trips. The first trip, every morning at 3am exactly I woke up from a deep sleep and was wide awake. No uneasy feelings or anything but it was 3:00 a.m. on the dot every night. Also, there was a very strange man that would sit in a corner chair in the lobby. Every time I passed through, not matter the time of day, he was sitting there with a blank stare on his face. I asked my coworker if he saw him as well and he agreed he made him feel uneasy. Not sure who he was but for sure was odd.

Second trip I woke up to someone/thing grabbing my leg and pulling me to the foot of the bed. It stopped almost instantly but I know what I felt and even slid a few inches down the bed. This was also at 3am.

    1. do you remember the floor or room number you stayed in? I’ve stayed at the hotel 3 times over the last 3 yrs and didn’t have any occurrences until this stay and it was both nights I was there.

  11. Several years ago my friend and I stayed in the Creole Quarters. I had no idea it was haunted when I booked the room – we had just come from the Myrtle’s Plantation the night before. It was around 2am that I was jolted awake by a large crash on the floor near the bathroom. It sounded like glass breaking. I got out of bed to inspect the room and didn’t find anything odd. My friend slept through it. I laid back down on my side to go back to sleep when I heard a male voice say, “hello” in a Cajun accent ON THE OTHER SIDE OF MY PILLOW – mattress side. I popped up again and looked around. Nothing. Once I was able to fall asleep again, there were two different times where I felt someone touch my hip and kind of make a circle. Whenever it would happen, I would change sides. Two different times I heard a female voice (sounded like she was standing over me) say, “BRRR.” We DID keep the A/C pretty cold. My friend never even moved – she slept in the same position all night. It was more of a creepy experience rather than a scary one. The male voice on the mattress side of my pillow definitely was the creepiest. I’m glad I found this site – happy to know I’m not alone.

    1. So I had to look this up because, my husband and I just stayed here… no idea it was haunted, last night staying on the 4th floor room 451  and woke up to a woman’s voice outside our window, which you couldn’t even hear the thunderstorm! And I kept waking up to the reoccurring dream of this beautiful, but troubled African American/French woman who kept trying to tell me how her mother brought and trapped her here? Seemed wealthy with clothing and possessions but seemed owned and trapped wanting to be helped?? I kept feeling tragedy? I felt so distraught, had to turn on the tv to break the feeling~ 😦

  12. My husband and I just stayed at the Holiday Inn LeMoyne Hotel last week. I am a paranormal investigator AND have been to New Orleans several times before, but for some reason forgot to bring any of my equipment. Still, it didn’t stop us from having an experience! We stayed on the third floor and were returning to our room. We were in the area where three hallways come together (one short hallway) and we heard a perky young woman’s voice say, “It’s me!” I looked at my husband and he said, “I heard it, too.” It was as clear and loud as if someone (living) was standing right next to us. I looked at all the room doors and the hall windows and they were all closed. Nobody was in any of the hallways. We waited, thinking if it was someone on their phone, we’d hear a continued conversation. None. When we got back to our room I wanted to try to debunk what we’d heard, so I stayed in the hall and had my husband close the (very heavy) door and I said “It’s me” in the loudness and clarity we heard it. He said my voice was very muffled, definitely not the same! This was during the day. Having been an investigator for many years it did not scare us, just was interesting. The only other thing that happened was that night; I woke up at 3:04 am and felt a feeling of dread. I almost expected to see a mist manifest, and it may have, but I didn’t have my glasses on. That was just interesting, but nothing conclusive. The voice was a definite, no if’s and’s or but’s! Just wanted to share.

  13. I need to add to my recent comments…I had forgotten one other experience we shared at LeMoyne! Again, on the third floor, leaving our room to go out to dinner. As we were almost to the row of windows overlooking the courtyard I noticed the smell of tobacco. At first I said, “Do you smell that? It smells like a cigar!” But then I realized, no, not a cigar, a PIPE! A very pleasant pipe smell. My husband smelled it, too. This hotel is totally NON-smoking, no vaping, nothing. Forbidden! So where this odor came from, we don’t know, but we both smelled it. Again, nobody else on the floor while we walked the hallways, no doors or windows open. Hmmm…?

  14. just checked out of the hotel today and had interesting and kinda freaky experiences the past 2 nights we were in room 508 . The first night I was woke up at around 3am by someone saying “wake up wake up” I was sharing a room with my sister busy she was asleep In Her bed undisturbed , there is some kind of alarm on the wall that blinks blue every so often but it was blinking like crazy throwing creepy flashes across the room. then heard knocking on my door and on the far wall . I tried to go to sleep but just couldn’t. I then heard what sounded like someone knocking on the wall of the shower which is the wall my bed was next to. I never went back to bed that night. Yesterday we got back to the hotel early and about 11 pm started hearing loud thudding from above us , odd because we were on the top floor. I fell asleep about 12:30 and kept waking up sweating and kept turning the fan back to face me. I was wide awake again at 4am by knocking on the wall. And when my sister woke up I asked her if she kept moving th fan to face her during the night and she said no she was freezing all night and didn’t want the fan . So I’m not 100% how the fan kept getting moved but it did . Very odd but interesting experience. I did research some after leaving this morning a learned of a murder of a priest on the fifth floor in 1998 but can’t find what room it happened in. If anyone knows I would love to know !

  15. I’m so thankful to everyone for sharing their experiences! I’m so glad I started this blog ten years ago so people would have a place to confirm and see their experiences were absolutely real and they weren’t imagining things. I appreciate all of your comments!

  16. My husband and I had a haunting experience during our stay in room 303 of the Creole Quarters. We were excited to have a room that felt so private and was suite-like, but we had no idea how haunted the Creole Quarters were until after our own experiences as well as reading what others have encountered. On the morning of day two I couldn’t find my sandals where I had left them. I ended up finding them way under the nightstand, laying on their sides pressed against the wall. That first experience just felt a little weird, but no biggie. Then while trying to sleep on night two, in the middle of the night, twice I heard things dropping to the floor. Then I kept hearing growling in our room. It felt so disturbing and unreal. Was I dreaming this? When I got up that morning, I had a scratches on my forehead and the scratches were an upside down cross. I took a picture of it, but idk how to upload it to this page. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, but not in the Creole Quarters. There’s a heaviness feeling there and it’s definitely dark and haunted.

  17. Saturday night March 8th 2025. We checked in Wednesday, I had no issues until Saturday night, our last night. Roughly 12:30ish I awoke to relieve my bladder. I sleepily stumbled from the bed near the windows past the other bed towards the bathroom. I was crabby and half asleep (not in a ghostly mindset at all) when a black mist dropped across in front of my path from the wall towards the beds. In my urgent rush I swatted the mist, dispersing it with my swipe while saying “Get the f**k out of my way!”.

Now, while urinating, I realize what just happened. I swatted a ghost away and told it to eff off lol! At this point the rest of the night was restless, filled with pale ghostly faces at my bedside and a 7 foot black shadow creeping in the corner! I will concede that the aftermath may have been all in my freaked out mind, but that initial black mist was definitely 100% real.

I never mentioned any of this to my friend that was in the other bed that night until we were home in Michigan. He freaked out having seen the same shadow and someone walking in the room Friday night while I was still out. He was glad that I confirmed his suspicions and will never stay there again. I however would consider it, with some ghost hunting equipment 😉

    1. Wow, Joe! Yours was a wild one! It seems the black shadowy figure is not our imagination! I’d stay there again anyway. It didn’t hurt us. It was just a nosey nuisance! Good on you telling it where to go! lol
